Research Visit to Lithuania (September 2025)
A research visit to Lithuania will be carried out in September 2025, focusing on the Soviet-era mass housing estates in Vilnius and Kaunas. The program will combine expert interviews with researchers, urban activists, and artists, alongside field observation and photographic documentation in key residential districts such as Lazdynai, Karoliniškės, Šilainiai, and others. Site visits will be complemented by meetings with local institutions and initiatives engaged in heritage preservation, cultural reinterpretation, and urban renewal. Particular attention will be given to public narratives representing the Soviet period, with a focus on how modernist architecture is framed within Lithuanian debates on post-Soviet identity, memory politics, and contested heritage. The visit will offer additional perspectives for reflecting on the broader post-socialist context in which Ukrainian rebuilding processes are unfolding.
